💦 Overflowing drain? Here’s what to do.

First up—stop adding water! 🚰 Avoid using taps, showers, toilets or appliances connected to the affected drain. Keep kids and pets away, especially if there’s sewage.

🌳 What’s causing the overflow? Tree roots, grease, debris or damaged pipes could be blocking the flow. Outside, stormwater drains can also overflow when blocked or overwhelmed by heavy rain.

🧴 Should I pour supermarket drain cleaner down it? Best to leave it on the shelf when a drain is overflowing. Some products can help with minor build-up, but they won’t fix tree roots or damaged pipes. Chemicals can also splash back from a backed-up drain. Leave specialist treatments to your plumber—and let them know if you’ve already used anything.

📞 When should I call a plumber? If sewage is overflowing, several drains are backing up or water is getting inside your home, give us a call promptly. Stay clear of wastewater and any water near electrical equipment.
